Started to assemle the Corvair engine today. I used the Sport Performance aviation assembly manual which provides a step by step process to assemble the engine. The first step was to clean the crankshaft, camshaft and case which were preserved with anti-rust compound after maching. The parts were cleaned using non-chlorinated brake cleaner. all parts were inspected for scratches and dings.
At the end of each oil gallery in each case half is a 1/8" pipe plug. The galleries were cleaned and blown with compressed air. The plugs were installed one they were clean. The passageway to the #1 cylinder crankshaft bearing was plugged. The obstruction was cleared and verifiied.
