After bonding the first doubler, I cleco'd it in place and was dismayed to notice the oil canning I'd seen before had now migrated to the area aft of the doubler. To solve this problem I simply made a second doubler and bonded it aft of the first one.
Once these doublers had been bonded to both side panels, I was quite happy with the results. The panels are strong and resulted in a nice smooth profile. I have no concerns over future dents caused by climbing in or out of the aircraft.
