After working on the skin the ;ast time I did a quick fit of the AST hinges and it did not look right. so after almost 2 weeks I am back in the shop and decide to figure this our first.
I had clecoed the bottom skin before so I lined up the skin and clecoed the hinges on and the holes were off again... aaarrgghhh I have no idea what I did wrong. So I loosend a part of the skin and fitted the oieces back in and matched drilled again and I could see I was a little off (picture 2).
I decide to put all the pieces together with clecoes to see if it fits. I put in the little slin splice plate HS1215 amd put the hinges back on .... and it does not fit. I am comopletely puzzeled. So I spent some time going through several build logs and the DVDHelp video. One of the problems I have is that hinges are a liitle too long and cover the hole where the aft ribs hs 1208 go. I re messure the hinge length several times and it is 32.5 inches.
In one of the picture of another log I see the space between the aft rib and the hinge so I go back in the instruction and all of sudden I see it. In my testing I had put the splice plate on the outside and then placed the hinge following that and this caused the hinge to be offset. (picture 1)
It took me 2 1/2 hours to figure it out but feel great that I conquered it
