Brief Description:  3: New Centre Tunnel Cover Plate

With the engine controls bracket in place I then went to run the control cables through the firewall, but encountered a problem. There's a cover plate that the control cables need to pass through that sits about 1" (25mm) inside the firewall. The holes in the cover plate did not align with the holes in the firewall .... that won't work.

I contemplated this for a while before deciding to simply make a new cover. The first picture below shows how I went about getting accurate measurements of the hole locations. The second picture shows my new cover. What you can't see in the picture is that the cover bends around to the side, and is shaped to allow the electrical conduit to pass through. I used the original cover as a template for all this, and my measurements as the basis for the hole locations.

With holes drilled I test fitted to verify that it would work ... all good.

I then smoothed all edges, cleaned with isopropyl alcohol, alodined, primed and painted, ready for final fitting tomorrow.
