Brief Description:  1: Cabin Heat

After what has seemed an eternity spent on instrument panel wiring, today I thought I'd do something different and work on the cabin heat valve.

First I pondered a suitable location on the instrument panel for the control knob, and eventually decided on a spot on the passenger side, directly below the CO Monitor. I drilled a 3/8" hole in the instrument panel, and another in the sub-panel, into which I fitted a snap-in bush, to semi-secure the control cable.

Next I cut the control cable to length and placed a joggle in the end of the inner control wire, as per the drawings. I then removed the cable and test fitted to the cabin heat valve on the bench, to make sure it was going to work okay before installing permanently to the firewall. All good, however I do have some reservations as to the quality of the seal when fully closed.

Using a liberal amount of RTV sealant I then fixed the cabin heat valve to the firewall, and reinstalled the control cable. I'll let the sealant fully set before diving in and attaching the cable to the valve body.
