Brief Description:  1: Seat and Firewall Brackets

A big day today, but not a real lot to show for it. I made up the parts required for the seat backrest supports. These allow a few different angles of recline for both pilot and passenger.

A couple weeks ago I borrowed a small bending brake off a workmate, and today it proved indispensable when making up a couple of the pieces. The wide strip shown in the first two pictures below has a 4-degree bend at its centreline. Not sure how I would have done this without a bending brake.

Although these parts look pretty straightforward, they did need to be made from scratch. I got the passenger side brackets completed today, but the drivers side will need to wait until tomorrow for final assembly.

Today I also riveted the brake line support bracket, and fuel pump doubler plate, to the firewall. Sounds easy, but without a helper this proved quite a challenge. Reaching down both sides of the firewall, rivet gun in one hand, bucking bar in the other, I discovered you need arms about five feet long. I could stretched mine to 4 foot 11 and 3/4.
