Brief Description:  1: Empennage Fairing

The empennage fairing has always bothered me in the sense that when you do up the fixing screws the fibreglass ends up with a wavy, bulging surface along the line where it meets the fuselage. The resulting gaps are quite unsightly.

This weekend I've engaged the services of experienced RV builder, Lyndon Trethewey, to help me with a few fibreglassing jobs, including this issue with the empennage.

He laid up duct tape and PVA release agent where the fairing sits against aluminium, then mixed up a resin/flock mixture and spread along the inside of the fairing. We then screwed the fairing back in place and let the resin cure. I'll remove it again tomorrow and sand the edges back to a nice finish.
