Brief Description:  1: Painting and Alodining Rudder Parts

First up today I spray painted the inside of the rudder skins with acid-etch primer. Naturally I cleaned all the ink and invisible greases and oils off the surfaces first with isopropyl alcohol. For some reason the factory ink markings took some scrubbing on these skins.

Once the inside of the skins were painted then I turned my attention to the stiffeners. I set up my alodining stand again, this time with a newly created water rinse bath which I made out of some PVC gutter parts. This sure made things easier than trying to rinse under a hose.

I first filled the bottom bath with Alumibrite, and gave all the pieces about 1.5 minutes, and then a rinse in water. I then swapped out the Alumibrite for Alodine and gave all the bits a little over 3 minutes each, and another rinse.

After the alodine had dried off I then gave all the stiffeners a coat of two-pack epoxy primer. I'll leave them to dry properly overnight before back-riveting onto the skins.
