Brief Description:  Assembled Left Horizontal Stabiliser

Today I finished deburring and smoothing the remainder of the horizontal stabiliser parts. Am glad that bit of the build process is over, although I'm sure I've got much, much more of the same to come. The scotchbrite wheel in my bench grinder is making short work of a lot of the edges, but unfortunately it cannot get into the inside surfaces or lightening holes. This is where I resort to my mini file, deburring tool, and scotchbrite pads.

After cleaning up all parts I then set about cutting out the plywood formers on my bandsaw, and attaching them to 70x35 timber cleats. I read on another builders log about sanding and lining the cutout with some duct tape to help protect the skins....so I did this.

I thought I'd have trouble getting the skin into the formers, but by simply holding the trailing edges together, and a little squeezing of the mid-section, then it went in quite easily. I then clecoed in the nose ribs, the front spar, the main ribs and finally the rear spar, before then #40 match drilling all the pre-drilled 3/32" skin holes.

Seems a shame to have to now dismantle it all, so I'm going to call it a day there, and just have a beer and admire it for a while :-).
