Brief Description:  1: Calibrating Fuel Tanks

Last day of the year and I thought I'd have a go at adding fuel to the tanks, calibrating the fuel gauges, and verifying fuel flow through the electric fuel pump. Well, that was the plan anyway.

I started by heading off to the local Bunnings hardware store to purchase jerry cans, a funnel, calibrated jug, and other bits 'n pieces for handling fuel in the hangar. On the way back to the hangar I stopped at the airport fuel bowser and made my first purchase of Avgas for Miss Tango. 38 litres at $3.01/L.

I started filling the left tank, first five litres, than another five, then another five. Fifteen litres, but no change on the fuel sender. Bugger. I decided to empty the tank and remove the sender unit to see what the problem might be. Gee, it sure does take forever to empty just fifteen litres through the drain plug. I started getting cramp in my arms holding the drain valve open, so decided that since I would likely be doing this quite a bit, then I should make up a jig of some sort to help with the task. See the bottom picture....it works very well.
