Brief Description: Oil Cooler Air Duct
Today I drilled a 3" hole in the back of the baffles for the oil cooler air duct fitting. Seems like a simple job, but it did take some doing. I didn't want to have to remove the baffles to drill the hole so I needed to come up with a way to get a 3" holesaw in there. A socket on the hole saw arbor, plus all the socket extensions pieces I've got, and I had a solution.
With the basic hole drilled I then filed and sanded quite a bit to get a nice fit for the SCAT tube fitting. No pictures, but I've now got the fitting clecoed in place, ready for rivetting later in the week.
No pictures, but I also started thinking about how I'm going to form a plenum that fits over the oil cooler. My original design, which had a flat lid and 2" duct fitting, is simply not going to allow enough airflow. By going to a 3" duct I increase the airflow by over double. Even though this is still less than the "normal" 4" duct that people often install when remote mounting the oil cooler, I am hopeful that it will be enough. If not, well, then I guess I'll have some rework to do.
