Brief Description: 1: Right Wing Root Fairing plus Wing Bolts
Today I finished the right wing root faring. Gee, things go a lot quicker the second time round, hey.
Before final fitting of the fairing I also made sure the fore and aft wing attach bolts were done. No dramas on the forward bolts. I simply drilled a small 1/16" hole in the attach bracket and added safety wire. The aft bolts, however, require a castle nut and cotter pin.....only problem is there is not enough room to swing a spanner. I ended up finding two different make spanners, slightly offset from one another. Plus I ground the edge out of (the cheaper) one so I could swing it just a little further before hitting the wing skin. By inching the bolt aroiund in the smallest of steps I could eventually line up the castle nut with the hole in the bolt, and therefore enable a cotter pint to go in. I then inched the assembly around enough to enable me to fold the cotter pin "legs" over. Phew, what a shitty design. Just a little more spanner room would be appreciated. Oh well, done now.
