Brief Description: 2: Brake Fluid Filling
|
|
What should have been a quick job to fill and bleed the brakes, turned into somewhat more. Armed with a cheap garden-sprayer, some clear PVC tubing, and a litre bottle of synthetic automatic transmission fluid (which I'm told makes an effective brake fluid), I set about filling my brake system.
My first problem was that I couldn't get any fluid into the brake caliper. Silly me, I didn;t realise I needed to back off the bleed nipple a quarter turn to allow fluid to enter. Okay, sorted that little dilema.
Next, after I filled the left system, I soon noticed fluid running out of a gap in the fuselage (where the gear leg fits into the fusleage skin). A glance inside the cockpit showed why ..... I hadn't tightened the braided lines at the brake pedals. Bugger.
I cleaned up the mess, tightened the fittings, then continued to fill the brake system. Once done I sat in the cockpit and tested the pedals, however noted that the right side master cylinder seems to be stuck. I cannot get it to move at all. I've had enough of this for one day, so will troubleshoot further tomorrow.
