A big day at the hangar today as I made very good progress on the top engine cowl fasteners.
I first completed making up all the fastener strips that attach to the firewall, then put layout lines through the centre of each fastener tab back up across the fuselage skin. I then placed a mark on the line exactly one inch from where I wanted my fastener centre hole to be. This would allow me to then know where to drill with the cowl in place, simply by measuring back down one inch from my mark.
I then carefully match drilled all fastener centre pilot holes, being very careful to ensure the cowl was pulled up tight against the firewall when doing so.
With the cowl cleco'd in place it sure is very secure, and far more rigid that I was expecting.
The top cowl, cleco'd in place
Quite happy with the fit
