Brief Description:  2: Wing Bolts

I continued with installation of the wing bolts today, and reminded myself just how hard these things are to get into place. The top bolts are actually not difficult at all, however it's the bottom ones that create all sorts of issues.

I removed the aileron control rods and wiring terminal strip so that I could get the best possible access into the area with my small mallet. I also applied lithium grease to the inside of each bolt hole with a cotton bud. Then I belted the bolts in.

Troublle with the bottom bolts is the limited (almost zero) access to the back side to get the nuts on. Apparently you need to hammer the bolts in just so far that you can get a nut started, then hold the nut and wind the bolt in from the head end. Not normal practice for doing up nuts, but no other option in this specific spot. Oh, and I made sure I put the washers under the bolt head on these bottom bolts.

After five hours I had all the bolts in their holes, but nuts on the top bolts only. I figure I've got quite a few hours to go just getting the nuts on.
