Brief Description: 1: Fuel Tank Attach Brackets - Part 1
|
|
After a three week absence from aeroplane building, it sure was good to get back in to it today, and I am very pleased with how much I managed to get done, thanks in no small part to helper Nadine Zanol. So much of today's work required a second person to hold bolts from one sied, while I worked on the other.
Anyway, first up today was to get stuck into the fuel tank attach brackets. I spent some time looking at the plans, and something just didn't seem right with the internal support bracket (pictured in the middle of the second photo below). I eventually worked out that I haven't yet installed the bolts that secure the bracket to the longerons. Bugger,.... but no big issue.
Using my right-angle drill from the inside, I match drilled the holes in the bracket to the longerons and skin, then countersunk from the outside. With Nadine as my helper, I then installed and torqued the countersunk bolts.
Job done.

A couple telltale countersunk bolt heads to verify that the bracket is now secured to the longerons.
