Brief Description: 2: Wing Attach Bolts
|
|
Gee, a milestone moment has been reached..... I'm about ready to attach the wings!
I spent the remainder of today getting things ready for this momentous event. I took out the seats, removed the console, and pulled out the floor panels. They all need to come out so I can get access to the bolt holes.
I also ground down the two spare wing attach bolts that I'd previously ordered. My aim is to make up a couple bolts that are slightly undersize, and with a tapered end. The standard NAS bolts are so tight a fit that they should only ever be used the once. With my couple undersize bolts I can get the wing attached and proceed with setting up the angle of incidence.
With one bolt ground down on the scotchbrite wheel, and the threads tapered down slightly, I test fitted in one of the spar holes. Yep, it's still a tight fit, but I was able to get it in and out without too much trouble.
I'm now aiming to get the wings attached during my next visit, in three weeks.
