Brief Description:  1: Rear Canopy Skirts

Today I continued on with the rear canopy skirt pieces. I still had one piece to cut out on the bandsaw, so started with that. Once cut, I then got all the edges nice and smooth on the scotchbrite wheel.

In hindsight, I realised when I started to fit the piece to the canopy that I need not have gone to so much trouble to cut and smooth to the template lines. The skirt is way oversize and will need to be trimmed quite a bit after match drilling to the canopy. This had me in a quandry for a while thinking I'd done something wrong.

Anyway, I started by cutting the centre top end to fit around the canopy slide rail, and then, following the instructions, started match drilling from the top. Each time I drilled a new hole I pulled the skirt forward at the same time to ensure it pulled in against the fuselage at the rear edge.

The pictures below show the right skirt about half finished. They also show the little hole duplicator tool I made to get the match drilling right. More on this in another post.
