Brief Description:  3: Canopy Guide Blocks

Next up today I started on the canopy guide blocks, which secure the rear section of the canopy when closed.

Before I started, however, I decided to shorten up the guide rails on each side by about 1/8". At the back end they protrude quite a way outside the lines of the fuselage, which will cause problems later when trying to get a tight fit on the canopy side skirts, so I figured the simplest way to ease the problem is to cut them a little shorter. This will be no problem, as I'm fitting Flyboys canopy extension parts later, so the canopy is going to open much further than standard anyway. I might even cut a little more off the rails yet, but first I want to fit the guide blocks.

Anyway, some basic marking and drilling and I soon had the guide blocks mounted to the longerons. I then followed instructions and marked out the angled drill lines on each nylon block.

I'm going to need a drill press to drill the guide holes, which I don't have here in Roxby, so I'm going to have to park it for now. I'll take the blocks with me down to Mount Gambier next weekend. I have a drill press there.
