Using my trusty Dremel, the big cut went quite well, and with no mishaps. The tiny cutting disk does make for a slow cut, with several passes required, but I think it's also a lot safer than using something with a larger wheel.
Anyway, it's so good to now see the canopy separated into two pieces.
