Brief Description: 2: Nose Wheel
|
|
Also today I assembled the front nose wheel. This was relatively simple, with no dramas encountered.
I started by assembling the nose wheel axle. I'll hold off greasing the bearings for now (mainly because I don't have any grease), so have just done the locking nut up finger tight.
Next I prepared the two fairing brackets by smooting all the edges and trimming the wide slot where they slide under the axle bolt washer (second picture, middle of photo).
I then bolted the front wheel into the fork assembly, fitted the fairing brackets, and installed the grease nipple. After checking out my handiwork for a moment, I then installed onto the front gear leg, again just doing up the locking nut finger tight.
No pictures, but also today I did some work on the instrument panel. I filled the flush rivet heads that surround the map box with some resin/flock mix, and sanded back smooth. These rivets will be in the direct line of sight of any passenger I take up, so I want to be as invisible as I can possibly make them. I'm okay with a little "evidence" of a rivet (this is a homebuilt aeroplane after all), but not okay with something glaringly horrible. After my "first pass" filling and sanding, I'm nearly there.
