When I first fitted the pitot tube, many months ago, I made a mistake. I installed it about 500mm closer to the fuselage than it's supposed to be. This creates a potential problem in that the airspeed indicator could become affected by wash from the propellor. It's very important that the pitot be in clean air.
Once I realised my error I did a lot of investigating. I found that the position where I installed the pitot should still be okay, and should be unaffected by propellor wash. But I'm not happy with "should be okay", so I decided to shift it while I still can.
Moving the pitot mounting post wasn't too hard, and I got it done quite easily today. The problem is the skin .... it has a cut-out to suit the pitot mounting post, and there's no way around replacing it with a new one. I've contacted Vans for a quote. Is not going to be cheap, but I need to do it for my own peace of mind.
The pitot tube needed to be moved to its proper position
