Brief Description:  Fiddling with the Avionics

Quite a bit done today, but very little in the way of pictures to show for it. In a nutshell.....

1: I resolved a problem with loading of the PocketFMS aviation and obstacle databases onto the Skyviews. Despite the documentation saying you need only load from USB onto one Skyview, and the other will automatically detect it, I found that I actually needed to load onto both.

Side Note: This database is awesome. I can touch an airport on the Skyview map screen, then bring up all the com frequencies associated with that airport, then load those frequencies direct into the radio. No manual spinning of numbers required. How cool!

2: Resolved a problem with the Angle of Attack (AoA) system. It wasn't powering up. After a bit of old-fashioned troubleshooting (reminiscent of the good ol' days as a sparky at Panelboard) I found the power pin in the VP-X connector wasn't seated properly. Once I fixed this I then had flashing lights on my AoA head-up display. How cool.....again!

3: Carried out the initial ground calibration of the AoA system, plus set-up its audio options to verify that the intercom wiring all worked okay through the headset. It all worked, however there is some interference coming through that I'd like to fix later. Nothing too bad, but there all the same.

4: Verified correct signals to the AoA from the flap position sensor. This will be critical toward the end of my test flight program when I configure the AoA system in flight. For it to work properly it needs to know what position the flaps are in. Anyway, it all tested okay.

5: Verified the "Music In" function worked on the intercom. All good. I like that the music continues to play if you talk on the intercom. Allows you to sing along. If talking on the radio however, it mutes the music, which is what you want. All good.

6: Added a 1k-ohm 1W resistor to the "Starter Engaged" VP-X input, as specified in the VP-X manual. This input brings on a warning light on Skyview when the starter is engaged.
