Brief Description:  Firewall

More work on the firewall this afternoon. My newly found "option" plans have opened up a new work front for me. A whole number of jobs that had me wondering what to do, are now explained in glorious detail.

I installed a couple nutplates for ground lugs. There's two shown, a main ground point, and an alternate. Without any instructions (which I'm guessing come with the firewall forward kit) to guide me as to why you would choose one over the other, I decided to install both. Whichever one I don't use I'll just put a short olt in it to close up the hole.

I also found a couple rivets at the top of the firewall recess box that needed to be drilled out, and holes enlarged. These will become anchor points for the hose that goes to the oil pressure sender unit. Similarly a couple other holes on the firewall. Gee, I'm so glad I found out this now, and not later.

I drilled a hole for the cabin heat actuator cable, and another couple holes that will ultimately secure my wiring bundles at the top, on the cockpit side.

After all this was done then I decided I may as well install the firewall recess box. I dimpled all the flange holes with my pneumatic squeezer, and then applied some high temperature RTV silicon sealant all the way around the flange, before riveting in place. Once installed I then also sealed up all the little gaps with more RTV sealant.
