This weekend I continued with the leading edge landing light installation. I finished off the lens for the left wing, which included installing nutplates to the retaining brackets, then fixing the retaining brackets to the perspex lens. To do this I needed to ensure the hole through the perspex was oversize so that the perspex didn't crack when pop-riveted. Came out pretty good.
What didn't come out so good is the overall fit of the lens in the opening. When match drilling the screw holes in the perspex a couple weeks ago I must have been a bit careless, because the "nose" of the perspex lens does not fit very well into the wing cutout. There's quite a horrible gap. I'm going to leave it for now but I'll pick up another lens piece when I go to Oshkosh later in the year and build a new one. I know I can do better.
