This afternoon I turned my attention back onto the wings, and in particular, on the landing lights. A few weeks ago my leading edge mounting kits arrived from Duckworks, and today they're going in.
I prepared the template and stuck it in to position, as per the instructions. The edge of the hole must be 13.7" back from the top edge of the nose skin sheet. I then read the instructions again, checked my template position again, and read the instructions again. I realised I was stalling. The next step was to put a dremel cutting wheel into the wing skin....and I was shitting myself!
After checking everything yet again I decided I just had to do it. The dremel made easy work of the straight cuts. I then cut a diagonal across the corners and removed the waste. A cutting bit in my drill did a good job of cleaning up the hole to the lines, then it was a simple matter of applying a bit of elbow grease with some fine sandpaper and scotchbrite pad, and the job was done. Phew.
Marking out the location on the left wing for my leading edge landing lights
There ain't no goin' back now!
Edges sanded and smoothed, ready for the next step.
