Brief Description:  4: Left Wing Aileron and Flap Assembly

I finished the day off today by attaching the aileron and flap control surfaces to the left wing. It's awesome how much quicker everything is the second time around (having previously completed the right wing several weeks ago).

After dropping washers on the floor about a million times, I eventually got the aileron attached. Needless to say I did let out a couple expletives from time to time...... but apparently this is mandatory when aircraft building anyway, so all good.

Next I attached the left flap, which also had its "moments". Nonetheless, when both were finally fitted up I was again impressed with how well they aligned. An exact 3/16" gap between the two, just as the plans call for.

After setting the aileron neutral position I again noticed that the control rod rubs against the side of the hole in the rear spar when in the fully down posiiton. So, just as I did on the right wing (and as per other builders before me), I enlarged the hole slightly to allow just enough clearance. Once finished I smoothed off the edges and then gave the hole a new coat of primer.

I also checked aileron travel. The plans indicate up travel of 32 degrees, and down travel of 17 degrees. I've got up travel of 37 degrees and down travel of 21 degrees. Of course, this will change once both wings are connected to each other, and the final setup is done.
