This afternoon I thought I'd start on the trim tab, and get it to a point where I could do two tank sealant jobs at once: 1: Left elevator trailing edge (all ready) 2: Trim tab foam stiffeners
I started by first scuffing, cleaning and priming the inside surface of the trim tab skin, leaving the areas where the small foam stiffeners need to be be glued in place unpainted.
Next I carefully marked out the little square block of foam that is supplied with the kit, and cut out two foam stiffeners on my bandsaw. Naturally I made them a little oversize to give myself some "room to move" when sanding the sides smooth......and that's where I stuffed up!
When sanding one of the blocks at my belt sander, I forgot to pay attention to keeping the block square on the belt.....and accidentally sanded way too much off one side. Bugger!
Looks like I'll be ordering another block of foam from Vans. That'll take 2-3 weeks to get here, but at least it's inexpensive.
