Brief Description: Removal of plastic and scarfing joints
Today was one of those mind-numbing sessions in the shop. I began by removing the plastic protective coating from the rivet lines on the bottom wing skins (both sides). The next step was to scarf the overlapping wing skins on the leading edge where they butt up against the tank skin at the main spar. I use four sanding blocks of varying grit starting with about 100 and working my way to 400. I scarf down about 3" on the overlapping skin joint and remove no more than 50% of the skin thickness. After the scarf joint was finished, I masked the area and applied a thin coat of primer on the mating surfaces.
