Brief Description: Preparation of tank skin and aileron brackets
Today was one of those mind-numbing sessions in the shop. I began removing the plastic protective coating from the rivet lines and then deburred all the holes in the tank skin (inside & out). The next task was to tape off the matching surfaces inside the tank and scuff with scotchbrite pads. I am waiting for a set of tank dimpling dies so the tank skin and ribs were set aside in favor of preparing the aileron brackets.
Preparing the brackets is relatively easy. I used a 3/16" reamer to dress the appropriate holes in the bracket assembly. A 1/4" reamer was used to fit the pivot bolt in the bushing. Once the bushing and bracket were checked for smooth movement, I added some lithium grease and put the nut on temporarily.
