Before beginning work on the port wing, I took some time this morning to do some preventative maintenance on my Craftsman air compressor. I began by opening the drain valve in the bottom of the tank. As usual, a fair amount of water was drained from the tank. I decided to remove the quick-drain fitting from the tank and clean the threads using the appropriate pipe thread tap. With the quick-drain removed, it was possible to clear a small amount of rusty debris from around the drain hole. After cleaning, the quick-drain fitting was reinstalled with some pipe dope on the threads. The amount of moisture that condenses in the tank and the resulting rust concerns me. I don't think there is much that can be done other than routinely draining the tank.
