Brief Description:  Built wing storage fixture

I followed Van's drawing in constructing the ends of the wing fixture but modified the rail tying the ends together. I used a single 2x4 reinforced by three steel 90 degree reinforcement angles at each end. In addition, a slotted rail was fabricated and attached at the top of each end piece allowing aluminum sheets to be stored between the upright wings. I plan to store the bottom skins in this rack until they are finally riveted to the wings. I will install the bottom skins once I make a decision regarding an autopliot and possible wing-mounted servo.

The wing fixture has 2" castering rollers on the end pieces so the wings can be wheeled about the garage, hangar, or storage space. Seems like nothing is ever cheap where aircraft are concerned. The wing fixture cost about $70 in materials from Lowe's not including the particle board end pieces, outdoor carpet, and glue left over from earlier fabrication efforts. It really is amazing how basic hardware and wood adds up. For any new or prospective builders out there, be advised, the tooling and workshop costs of building an RV series aircraft are not insignificant.
