I have decided to construct the ailerons next and then move on to the left fuel tank. This session began with a review of GeoBeck's DVD on aileron construction and Van's shop instructions. Next step was to layout all the components for both ailerons and mark the parts for identification.
The ailerons stiffeners had been prepared earlier so I was able to immediately begin match drilling the stiffeners to the skins. All stiffeners were then removed and marked as to placement. The plastic along the rivet holes was removed, the skins deburred and dimpled. The stiffeners were also deburred and dimpled.
Next step was to scotcbrite all the stiffeners and prime. Finally, each stiffener was back riveted to the inside of the skins. The next shop session will begin with reinstalling the metal brake on my work bench and putting the final bends in the aileron skins. I will have to stop at the local hardware to get some 1/8" dowels to tape inside the aileron trailing edges to ensure a nice bend radius.
