Brief Description: B-17G Restoration Project (Urbana, OH) - Part 1
B-17G Restoration Project (Urbana, OH) - Part 1
Decided to fly over to Grimes Field in Urbana, OH this morning to talk with some restoration folks about the primer being used in their B-17G project. This is where I first saw the Dupli-Color rattle cans being used on small parts. Obviously however, they are priming some very large pieces and are certainly using some two-part epoxy coating. Whatever they are using it looks very much like the Dupli-Color product when applied. Unfortunately, the gentleman that does the painting was not available so I left my card hoping he will contact me later.
The folks on this project are a friendly bunch and always willing to talk about their work. Before leaving I took a few pictures to share. By the way, this B-17G was in awful shape when it came to Urbana and is really getting a ground up restoration. When the Memphis Belle first arrived at the NMUSAF at Wright-Patterson AFB, it was described as "bad shape or really bad shape" but it was excellent when compared to the Urbana bird. By the way, the Urbana B-17G will be restored to airworthy condition and will become part of a flying museum program.
