Brief Description:  Miscellaneous tank parts and tasks

Well, it's 12 Aug and I am still puttering around the shop doing minor tasks while waiting for my latest Van's order. It's obvious I need to do a better job anticipating required resources (materials, tools, etc.) and get them ordered so they show up "just in time". You would think this lesson would have been learned long ago when I was working for a manufacturing company. Good thing this undertaking is not for profit.

Anyway, I completed some very minor items this morning including some platenut installation, trial fitting of fuel and vent line connectors, drilling the tank attach brackets, fabricating a couple vent line clips, and preparing the other anti-twist brackets for the fuel connection. By the way, I didn't really understand how the anti-twist brackets worked until studying the plans a little closer. Van's gives the builder two different cog patterns for each tank but only one will be used. Since you don't know which is required until final assembly, I went ahead and prepared all the brackets.

I located and drilled the hole in the root rib for the vent line using a Unibit. By the way, the Unibits really cut a nice hole in the aluminum. The clips shown below are for attaching the vent line near the fuel cap and were made from some shop scrap. You will also see the inverted fuel trap door and some little patch plates to cover tooling holes in a couple tank end ribs (don't have any easy way to install number 6 rivets in the holes).
