Brief Description:  Airplane ride for granddaughters

The evening was perfect for a first "little airplane" ride. While my granddaughters have been on transport category planes a couple times, they have never flown in a light plane and never been flying with their Pap. I purposely waited until they were older so they might enjoy the flight and remember the experience.

We departed Dayton International and flew north well out of the Class C airpspace where we could maneuver a bit and do some sightseeing. My girls are more than a little verbal so I didn't want to miss any ATC transmissions. Anyway, we just had a leisurely flight with some gentle turns and some ground reference maneuvers. When I was sure there was no sign of motion sickness, I did a steep turn to see their reaction. There were two squeals of delight and an immediate "do that again Pap".

After about 30 minutes we landed at an uncontrolled field and the girls switched seats (everyone gets some right seat time). We then took off and continued our sightseeing, this time taking a quick detour to see my sister's farm and an old airfield I used to frequent. Finally, after another 30 minutes or so we headed back to Dayton International for a smooth touchdown.

We had a great time. Now we will have to see if this first flight created a spark.
