Brief Description:  Dayton International Air Show

I decided to skip Oshkosh 2009 in favor of purchasing and working on my wing kit. I did, however, take a break and attended the Dayton Air Show in the hopes of seeing some RVs and their builders. I had hoped to pick up some tips on finishing the fiberglass on the empennage components. Unfortunately, the EAA chapters and builders from the area must have decided not to participate because the area reserved for their planes was empty. In fact, there was very few general aviation planes at the show. The majority of the displays were military.

The show itself was ok for folks not familiar with the Oshkosh experience. The show included the Golden Knights, WACO taperwing, Super Hornet, Patty Wagstaff, Sean Tucker, Brazilian Smoke Squadron, A-10 demo, P-51, F4U Corsair, Tora Tora Tora, Apache demo, and the USAF Thunderbirds. Again, the show was ok but not as good as some previous years. I miss the days when all the general aviation manufacturers and military contractors were represented. Back in the 1970's the Dayton Air and Trade Show was huge and rivaled many airshows around the world with the exception of Oshkosh.
