Brief Description:  Modified wing jig

The wing jig will handle one wing at a time. In order to keep the shop as uncluttered as possible, I have modified the jig to allow spars for the second wing to be stored on a rack at the top of the jig. You will see in the photos below I added a cross member between the uprights made of two laminated 2x4s. The two ends are secured with brackets fabricated from steel angle (similar to the brackets tying the uprights to the floor and ceiling). Spaced equally the length of the jig are four pieces of aluminum U channel. These pieces of channel will provide a shelf to store the second set of spars. My intention is to glue a strip of outdoor carpet on the top surface of each shelf bracket to protect the spars. I plan to secure the spars with some bungees to be sure they stay put.

The shelf brackets are 24" in length so they extend about 10" on either side of the jig frame. If necessary, I can add a thin piece of plywood to create a solid shelf the full length of the jig. Such a shelf would allow the storage of additional wing components up out of the way.
