Brief Description: Continue fabrication of trim tab
Clecoed the trim tab spar (E-607PP) to the inside bottom surface of the trim tab skin (E-619PP-020). Clamped the inboard and outboard trim tab horns (E-718 and E-717) together and inserted the clevis pin through the clevis pin attach hole for alignment. Clecoed the outboard trim tab horn (E-717) to the skin. Used holes in E-718 as a drill guide and match drilled E-718 to the trim tab skin (E-619-1-020) and the trim tab spar (E-607PP).
Used the dimensions given on DWG 4 to position and clamp the trim tab hinge (E-721) to the top flange of the trim tab spar. Marked the inboard edge of the trim tab skin and spar on the hinge. Match drilled the remaining holes attaching the trim tab skin to the bottom flange of the trim tab spar. Match drilled the holes attaching the skin to the top flange of the spar and hinge.
Machine countersunk the top side of the trim tab spar (E-607PP) to accept the dimples in the skin. Dimpled the bottom flange of the spar. Disassembled the trim tab. It was not necessary to trim material from the tab horn since horns for both electric and manual trim are suppllied. Trimmed the inboard edge of the aft portion of the trim tab hinge (E-721). Prepared the parts (Deburred, smoothed edges, dimpled and primed as necessary). Removed the clecos along the top flange of E-606PP (spar) and clamped the hinge to the upper flange of the spar and the aft edge of the elevator skin (E-701-L).
Adjusted the position of the hinge on the elevator so the inboard and trailing edges of the trim tab align with the corresponding edges on the elevator (trailing edge is more critical than inboard edge). Used a long straight edge to check alignment. Match drilled and clecoed the forward portion of the hinge (#40) using the holes in the trim tab skin and the trim spar as a guide. Marked the inboard edge of the E-701-L elevator skin on the hinge. Removed the hinge and trimmed the inboard end to match the inboard edge of the elevator skin. Reattached the tab hinge and trim tab assembly to the elevator.
