My task for today was to fit the flap to the port wing, match drill the flap hinge to the trailing edge of the wing, and rivet the hinge to the wing. I began by rigging the aileron with the appropriate hardware. This required fabricating a bushing for the inboard pivot point. Getting the various spacing washers positioned and the bolts inserted was difficult, taking way too much time.
The aileron was positioned with the rigging tool (bar) fabricated earlier. The flap with its hinge was positioned with the 1/4" gap at the aileron per the plans. The hinge was match drilled to the traiing edge of the wing. This was a difficult task and took some time to ensure the edges of the aileron and flap were in line.
After checking the flap/hinge fit and movement the hinge was riveted to the wing. Task for tomorrow will be to install the npush/pull tube between the aileron and the bellcrank. A bracket was supplied by Van's to get the proper length on the tube. I will have to fabricate another bushing for the attachment to the aileron bracket.
