I attached three nutplates to the cowl on each side of the spinner. This area will have the same type screws used to secure the prop spinner. I used two std number 8 plates and one corner style plate on each side.
I also added some fiberglass layups on the back side of the cowl in this area for extra strength around the platenuts. You can see the peel-ply in the photo.
Finally, I mixed up some epoxy and thinned it with acetone to be used as a filler and coating on the inside of the cowl. I brushed a thin coat on both cowl halves to serve as a barrier so the cowl doesn't soak up oil and gas from the engine.
Haven't decided whether to do a second coat or perhaps paint the interior of the cowl with a ceramic high temp paint. I almost certainly will add some metal foil to the cowl to protect against high heat around the exhaust pipes.
