I chose to secure the cowl hinge pins with some aftermarket plates from Aerosport Products. These plates are installed by first cutting a precise hole in the cowl (each side) to accommodate the plate. The back of the plate is covered with plastic tape and then a fiberglass layup is placed on the inside of the cowl. Once the glass cures the plate is removed, the layup is split along the cowl line, and the holes for the mounting screws marked and drilled.
