Brief Description:  Additonal glass work on empennage fairing

I am recording this work in one posting, however, it took multiple shop sessions over a period of days due to the curing time of the fiberglass work between steps.

I was not happy with the fit of the stock fairing against the surfaces of the horiz and vert stabs. The fairing material was somewhat thin and flexible allowing the fairing to "pillow" between the clecos in some areas. To remedy the fit issues I used a couple techniques:

On the vert stab portion of the fairing I cut some slits between the fasteners to relieve the material. After covering the vert stab with plastic packing tape I put two layers of glass and resin on the inner surface of the fairing and clecoed it in place. The glass and resin conformed to the vert stab and fill any voids. Later in another step I used SuperFill in a similar fashion to get a nice fit at the leading edge vertical. SuperFill is rather soft so after it cured I added a layer opf glass for added strength.

I used the same approach to fit the fairing to the horiz stab. Finally, I added a layer of glass on the exterior surface of the fairing where the fasteners are located. This further stiffens the fairing and should eliminate the tendency to pillow. It was also necessry to cover the relieving slits cut into the fairing earlier.
