After trying unsuccessfully to installed the four bolts at the front of the horiz stab I decided to "bite the bullet" and crawl back into the tail cone. To prepare I had to remove the battery plate and ELT, then reinstall the backboards used earlier to buck rivets in the tail. The bolts were inserted from the outside and then I crawled into the tail and installed the nuts and washers.
After removing a little metal from the front edge of the vertical stab (touched the fuselage skin), I installed the vertical stabilizer. The fairing was then temporarily reinstalled to check fit. I am not happy with the overall fit so will have to come up with a plan to modify the stock fairing. It fits ok against the horz stab but there is "pillowing" between fasteners along the vertical stab.
Finally, I spent some time sanding the fiberglass tips for the vert and horiz stabs and added one more layer of glass to the foam plugs.
