Brief Description:  Completed initial fitting of cowl

I haven't been posting regularly in the last few days but have been hard at work in the shop. Fitting the two halves of the engine cowl has been a challenge. I really lost track of the hours so just decided to call it a total of 44 including the oil door.

I began by fitting the upper cowl with a 1/4" spacer between the spinner. The piano hinge was installed with a spacer and drilled to the fuselage. After trimming the cowl was then drilled to the hinge. The install was accomplished per the shop instructions.

Then it was on to the lower cowl. I don't know how many times the cowl half was taken on and off but it was considerable. It literally took hours of fitting, marking, cutting, and sanding. Eventually, I got a reasonable fit though I now need to sand a little more on all the seams to allow for paint (the edges have to have a very slight gap).
