Brief Description: Replaced wire to rudder (nav/strobe)
I recently discovered that the wire installed earlier for the AeroLed Suntail was sized one gauge too small so it was necessary to replace. I suspect the 22 gauge multiconductor shielded wire would have been ok but just to be safe I upgraded it to the 20 gauge that was specified in the installation instructions for longer cable runs.
To accomplish this task, however, required a series of steps. The elevator push/pull tube had to be removed as well as the ELT. The plywood planks had to be reinstalled so I could crawl back into the tail cone. There is no more room back there today than when I bucked all those rivets earlier.
I cut all the cable ties securing the wire and removed it. The new wire was pulled through the airframe and secured as before with cable ties. I replaced all the vinyl chaffing protectors around the wire where it was secured to the airframe. The ELT and push/pull tube was reinstalled. Ok, we are now back where we started.
