Brief Description: Match drilled canopy slide to fuselage and attache
I got the canopy slide attached to the aft fuselage upper skin this afternoon. The centerline of the fuselage was located with a fishing line strung between the centered blind rivet at the forward bulkhead and the center of the most aft bulkhead. The line was pulled tight and then a couple sharpie marks were made to indicate the centerline.
A fellow RV-8 builder down in Texas, Steve Riffe, gave me the fore and aft measurement for the slide, 31 5/16 from the rear bulkhead to the aft end of the slide. This measurement happens to locate one of the mounting screws so the fastener goes thru the flange of a fuselage bulkhead. Makes a nice secure fit and the forward end of the slide mates exactly to the recessed portion of the fuselage.
The screw attach points were match drilled with a #27 bit to the fuselage skin and the specified screws, washers, and nuts were installed.
