Brief Description:  Fabricated ELT mounting bracket

I decided to mount the ELT on the starboard side of the fuselage in the tail cone just behind the access door on the aft portion of the baggage compartment. This is roughly were the ELT is located in my Piper Archer. It will require the removal of some screws to gain access to the transmitter and battery but it seems to be the best location overall.

I fabricated the mounting bracket by cutting two pieces of angle aluminum which will be riveted to the two auxiliary longerons that run along the side of the tail cone. The two angles will have platenuts (three each) to fasten the mounting plate to the longerons. This should provide a solid mount to withstand high G forces encountered during an accident.

The pictures below show the various parts that make up the ELT mount and the longerons where the brackets will be riveted. The parts have been primed in preparation for installation. Once installed, I will determine the routing of the antenna cable and remote switch wiring. I will also have to find a place to mount the remote switch/indicator and the audible warning buzzer.
