Brief Description:  Completed reassembly of instrument panel

Ran out to the local hardware this morning to get a couple 1/2" stainless socket head screws to mount the Narco VOR/ILS in the panel. The local Ace Hardware guys just love seeing me arrive. I am always needing some high profit margin little item like stainless fasteners.

Anyway, I got the Narco unit installed and the glove compartment that replaced an AM/FM/CD radio that was once mounted in the lower right corner. I seldom listen to anything but the aviation radios in flight but if the mood strikes I will bring along a portable. I have aux audio jacks in both the front and back cockpits and they will be wired to the intercom.

As can be seen below, my panel includes G meter, clock, fuel computer, volts/amp meter, airspeed (kts & mph), VOR/ILS receiver, HSI/Autopilot, electric DG, altimeter, vertical speed indicator, exhaust gas & cylinder head temp, oil temp & pressure, tachometer, manifold pressure, and hobbs meter. I have also included amber indicator lights to indicate fuel boost pump on, landing lights on, and a red light indicating low oil pressure. I sometimes forget to turn the boost pump and landing lights off after departure. In the upper right corner you will also see the hole where the parking brake will be installed.

The empty radio slots will accommodate a King transponder on the left side and a Garmin 250 XL GPS/Comm. I will also hardware a connection to a portable Garmin to be purchased when the plane is complete (probably a 796). A switch has already been included on the starboard aux panel to switch autopilot GPS input from the panel mounted Garmin to the portable.

Finally, I want to give Danny King, builder of the RV-8 "Beautiful Doll", credit for designing and building this panel. I was able to acquire his original steam gauge panel, add a few items, paint and placard for my bird saving a lot of shop time.
