Brief Description:  Fabrication of F-863-1 tank attach bracket

I worked at the NMUSAF a couple days this week and had some holiday social events to attend but made it back into the shop for awhile this afternoon. I decided to work on the F-863 tank attach brackets that will be needed later when mating the wings to the fuselage. Attaching the wings is still quite a ways off but the brackets will eventually be required and they take some time to fabricate. Anyway, I needed a little break from sheet metal work.

You will see in the first image below the basic drawing for the left tank bracket and the raw material required. Referencing the provided dimensions and a variety of tools including a bandsaw, hacksaw, vixen files, a drill press, #30 and 1/4" drill bits, a Unibit (step drill), scotchbrite wheels, a Dremel tool, and some sandpaper, I fabricated the bracket shown in image 2 below. This is the left tank bracket so I included a 1" hole in the bracket required for the fuel line (inverted flight). The right tank will not have an inverted fuel pickup so the hole will not be required.

I will probably need another 3 hours to make a matching bracket for the right tank. The bracket will have the same dimensions but must mirror the left bracket.
